E71++

I have a phone, a beatiful phone, the Nokia E71. It has a lot more than a student like myself should ever need. It has everything a geek like me could ever desire (except for the accelerometers :-|). Well why am I telling you about my phone? I could have told you about a cool software that I have downloaded just yesterday! Why my phone? Why my E71? The reason I am talking about it is the E72! Yeah,It hasn't even been one year and Nokia has already come up with an improvement. So what? I want to make it clear that I am not going to be lured into buying a new phone. NO SIR.

Nokia already tried to tempt me with the E75.Ha, Im not the one to ditch my dear phone for a plastic bodied, qwertied side-slider. Not a chance.

But this time around with the E72, I don't know. Let me list out what my E71 has that makes it one of the best smartphones on the planet. A great form-factor that I and so many others have come to love. The fantastic keyboard which makes the s in sms redundant. The absolutely gorgeous metal body panels which impart a Fort-Knox-feel(I am not exaggerating) to the phone. The fascinating pulsating light around the navigation key which also blinks to indicate new messages, emails and missed calls. The Symbian S60 OS which makes everything a breeze.Ahh, I can go on.

The E72 improves upon the mediocre 3.2 mpx camera with a non-CarlZeiss 5mpx camera. A 3.5mm jack for your favourite ear phones(E71 has a 2.5mm jack). Not to mention the neat Feature Pack 2 that also comes standard on the USA-only E71x. And the cherry-on-the-cake is the optical trackpad which is a first for any Nokia phone.

Is all this enough to make me bite the forbidden fruit? No way. Im not falling for these features. I don't need a 5 mpx camera which i won't use anyway. The standard headset works fine for me, I don't need a 3.5mm jack on my phone(hey, what are ipods for?) And I very happily dismiss the optical sensor as just another gimmick. And yeah, the grapes are probably sour too.

Why all this crap now? I read somewhere that resolutions are more likely to be broken when they are not disclosed to anybody. So here I am stating before everybody that I love my phone, I am not falling for the new temptress in town. I am going to stick with my phone through thick and thin. Okay, this is getting weird,I better stop. The E72 is crap. I don't want it. I have an E71.I Rock.

P.S. If you are in the market for a new phone, and if the E72 fits in your budget then you must ignore this post and just buy it. Its a bloody brilliant phone.

P.P.S Haven't been doing much of photoshop these days. Its Dreamweaver all the way.So no new wallpapers.Sorry.

One Year Up!

Category: By Guru Balakrishna
Hello people,
One year at the college institute (when will i ever get it right!) is over and today I am going to share with you what I have learnt all year.
Here goes...
  • I have learnt how to drink water from a tap.(Believe me it took me the whole of first semester and a good part of the second semester to drink water without looking like a contortionist.)
  • A pair of faded sky blue jeans will almost always change magically to a lovely colour of grey before you can say Levi Strauss.
  • Ants can attack everything, right from your mom's lovingly packed pickles to shampoo! (I have substantial evidence.)
  • Sleeping after sunrise can be either depressing or brilliantly pleasant depending on who you talk to!
  • Sitting before the computer qualifies as working if everyone thinks you are a geek.
  • Establish as many rules as possible with your roommates in the beginning of the year, because there is absolutely nothing you can do about it later.
  • Getting a classroom with two doors doesn't happen very often, so make the most of the second exit when u have it. ;)
  • There are people in this world who care more for insects and clingy reptiles than humans. One such specimen could even be your roommate. :P
  • No matter how much time you have before the exam, the syllabus that has to be covered will be just enough to fit into that time. (This always holds true, even one minute before the exam.) and finally...
  • Eating potatoes for almost every meal of the day, for a whole year could make you publish posts like these!
And a shoutout to Pune, that's the place my blog is having most visits from!!!

Look who's here!

The Palm Pre(pronounced "pray", is that a coincidence?) is here and its one of those multi-touch multi-tasking smartphones which means that you can get all touchy-feely with it and also run many apps at once.(It pains to see people get all excited about multi-tasking, I've been multi-tasking since the birth of Christ on symbian s60 but that's another story for another day). Getting back to what i was saying, it means you can read a pdf and listen to music while waiting for your mail to load. But it has one killer feature that no smartphone has ever had.No its not the WebOS, not the cards interface, not the slide-out keyboard either. Here goes, it has a bottom edge so sharp that u can cut cheese! Lets see the iphone or the N97 do that!

Seriously, I was hoping that Palm would get it right this time around with the pre. Well they have come pretty damn close to becoming the new benchmark (read bettering the iphone) except for the crappy hardware(sharp edges, plasticky body, sticky keys, ouch!). They have triumphed the iphone in a lot of departments though starting with the OS (gasp!), the touch screen (double gasp!) and copy-paste (hyper-ventilating now!!) Well i know copy-paste on iphone is almost here but couldn't stop myself! Heck, the Pre even syncs with apple's own itunes by faking its identity n pretending its an ipod!!!

Do read a review of the Pre
here.

What's in it for me? Well I once had a nice "relationship" with a Treo 650(Yeah, I'm that kind of a guy!) I still use the Treo when I'm in Hyderabad (over my E71,now that's saying something!) and we have had real good times(except for Blazer, which is only the most retarded mobile browser in the world). So I sincerely hope Palm stays in the game. Well from the looks of it Palm's not going anywhere. Just one suggestion Palm, next time around just file the edges a bit. And while you are at it,try selling your phones in India too!

Eagerly waiting for
WWDC (June 8th to 12th) (WWDC is Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference) where Apple is going to announce the next generation of the iphone! Hope to see Steve Jobs this time with his trademark "one more thing..."

The wallpaper i promised in my previous post is still under production!

And one more thing, Can u people guess the city from which my blog has the maximum visits?!
